Vikings: Valhalla fans will be happy to know that a second series of the show is officially happening. Though it's a standalone series, Valhalla is actually a sequel to Vikings, the Prime Video show which ran between 2013 - 2020. The Netflix adaptation is set 100 years later, and sees a "new generation of legendary heroes arise to forge their own destiny and make history", according to the official description.

Great news, Vikings: Valhalla fans: season two has an official release date. Mark 12th January 2023 in your diaries, because a whole new batch of episodes are landing on Netflix, to save your long and dark evenings from being boring.
When was Vikings: Valhalla season two confirmed?
Even before season one dropped on 25 February, screenwriter Jeb Stuart revealed season two had not only been confirmed, but had filmed *and* was being edited. "I am just finishing the editing of the last episode of season two this week and I am dying to get it out there, " he told Digital Spy.
Fans don't have to worry about the future of the show at this stage; Netflix have apparently already commissioned 24 episodes of the show, which will be split across three seasons. So there's another one to look forward to after this, too!
Who might star in Vikings: Valhalla season two?
As anyone who has watched season one knows, a *lot* of characters are killed off during the final episodes. But the good news is, many of the main cast are likely to return. That's Sam Corlett as Leif, Frida Gustavsson as Freydís Eiríksdóttir, and Leo Suter as Harald Sigurdsson.
Fans are also hoping Soren Pilmark as King Forkbeard and Bradley Freegard as King Canute will return to settle their quarrels, as well as power-hungry Olaf (played by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), Queen Emma of Normandy (Laura Berlin) and Queen Ælfgifu (The Walking Dead's Pollyanna McIntosh).
What have the Vikings: Valhalla cast said about season two?
Cast member Caroline Henderson (who plays Jarl Haakon) teased a surprising plot line, telling Metro that despite her death during the attack on Kattegat (spoiler alert!) we might not have seen the last of her.
"We don’t really know that [she won’t be back]," the actor revealed. "She might turn up as a ghost or something."
Offering more insight into her character, Henderson added, "She’s a pagan and she’s very strong in her belief. I think portraying that and being part of that journey was amazing because she knows what’s going to happen."
Leo Suter, who plays Harald, also teased a potential romance for his character with Freydis. "These are two people who are... they have a lot to talk about and they work so well together," he told Digital Spy. "But at the same time, there are big forces and big passions that are pulling them apart, and as with any sort of love story, there's... it's so simple in some respects, but also so complicated in other ways."
