An actor who appeared in season seven of Netflix's Virgin River, which premiered earlier this year, has sadly been found dead.

Stewart McLean's body was discovered in the Lions Bay area of British Columbia, Canada, a week after he was reported missing. The Canadian was last seen at his home on 15 May, and a missing persons report was filed three days later. A search then got underway, but sadly ended with the recovery of his remains.

Police are investigating McLean's death as a possible murder, and the local force has transitioned the missing persons investigation over to the homicide team.

"As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyse evidence, review CCTV footage, and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr McLean’s activities prior to 15 May, 2026," the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a statement.

"We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends, and loved ones of Mr McLean," the statement continued.

Shortly after the news of McLean's death broke, his talent agency took to social media to share a tribute. "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved client, Stew McLean," talent agent Jodi Caplan said on Facebook.

Everyone's clicking on...

"I was fortunate to have worked with Stew for more than 10 years," she went on. "He was always such a pleasure to deal with – dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny!"

The agent continued, "Many casting directors have reached out to share their condolences with Stew’s family and with our agency, and every message says the same thing: what a truly great guy he was, and how deeply he will be missed. Rest in peace, Stew."

McLean played a barfly character in season seven of Virgin River, and also made appearances in other TV series, such as Supernatural, Arrow, Travelers, Beyond, The 100, and Siren.

Our thoughts are with McLean's loved ones at this difficult time.
