Over the years Shetland has been one of our go to gritty must-watch dramas, as DI Jimmy Pérez and then later DI Ruth Calder investigate cases across rural Shetland. However, as we're not likely to get the next season until the end of the year we need another drama to keep us occupied, and top of our list right now is The Killing.
Released in 2011 and running for four seasons, The Killing has the dark and sombre undertones we've come to associate with Shetland as well as the intriguing mysteries too.
So if you're looking for something to keep you occupied until Shetland returns, this is your next must-watch.
What is The Killing about?
The Killing is based on the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen which loosely translates to The Killing, which was on air from 2007 to 2012. The American series is told in English and is set in rainy Seattle, Washington and follows detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder as they investigate murders across the city.
The first three seasons each had 13 episodes and when it was renewed for a fourth season on a different streamer of Netflix, it went down to six episodes for the final season.
When the show was first released in 2011 it received rave reviews with The Hollywood Reporter describing it as "excellent, absorbing and addictive," and The New York Times said of it "The Killing stands out - it is scary and suspenseful, but in a subdued, meditative way that is somehow all the more chilling."
Sounds like a worthy watch to us!
