Minimalism is one of the biggest interior design trends right now. And with A-list royalty including Kim Kardashian kitting their homes out with as little as possible and low-key colour palettes aplenty, it’s easy to see why we’ve fallen head over heels for a more simplistic, laid-back approach to life.

The trend originally derived from Scandinavia, and has now been joined by a sister trend which comes from a little further afield: Japan.

Japandi is the newest take on minimalism, pairing clean lines, neutral tones and natural textures with a love of non-pretentious decor and good craftsmanship. It’s primarily made up of the scandinavian ‘hygge’ (finding pleasures in the simplest of things), and Japan’s ‘wabi-sabi’, which is finding beauty in imperfection.

When it comes to designing a room in this particular style, think bamboo chairs, scandi-style rugs with geometric patterns, and a huge sense of tranquility. It’s the ultimate hybrid. And now everybody wants a taste of it, but who can blame them?

If you’re looking to get started, here are some of the best Japandi style touches to add to your home right now:
