Rattan has become the material for the summer, with the palm style weaving popping up in everything, from placemats, to decorative trays and now lampshades too, as we look to add a more natural aesthetic to our spaces, without feeling like we're literally on the beach.
The material has been used to decorate homes for years, but this season there's a real variety in the rattan available. For some home stores they're looking at darker more mid century styles of rattan which will easily elevate a space, and at others there's a favouring of lighter rattan which gives a more delicate and vintage to your home.
Right now we're leaning towards a darker rattan, and on sale at M&S is the ultimate rattan lampshade which you can use to jump on the trend. The Rocco Rattan Easy Fit Ceiling Lamp Shade is available for £50, and looks far more expensive than its price.
You can see the shade here:
We love the curved nature of the silhouette, which will add extra interest to any room you use it in. We can definitely see it hung low over a dining room table in a mid-century style set-up, or perhaps in a bedroom where you're going for a more calming Ibiza style aesthetic.
The shade is crafted with metal, but has the rattan overlay, so it's more secure and should last you for years to come.
It's also super easy to install yourself and we'd recommend using a warm yellow bulb to really bring a cosy atmosphere to your space.
And if you love the look but need a bit more drama or have a larger space that needs filling, then they also do a bigger version for £90.
Rattan for everyone!
