Faith Ward joined the DCC during season 3 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, but there’s something very different about her look on the field: she’s the only team member allowed to wear her hair in a ponytail.

Kelli Finglass cares a LOT about her team’s hair — especially since hair movement is often incorporated into their routines — and apparently there was some concern over Faith’s getting sweaty while dancing.

Faith told ABC Perth last year that Kelli was the one who came up with the ponytail idea after seeing her wearing one during fittings, explaining, “The DCC hairstyle is out, fluffy, voluminous, luscious, long locks. I’ve broken that stereotype. I’m in rehearsal one of the days with my hair out and I am, you know, sweating after doing ‘Thunderstruck.’

"She’s looking at me and she’s like, ‘You know what? I really want to see what your hair would look like tied up.’ I put it up for her and she really liked the way it danced, which was really cool because I was super excited about that. Your girl doesn’t want to have her hair out, sweaty in her face, dancing.”

Meanwhile Kelli told USA Today, “I know it’s highly discussed. She applied with a ponytail, and she was adorable in her application, and one night at rehearsal, I was like, ‘Why don’t you wear a ponytail? It would make you stand out. It’s memorable.’ We’ve had some iconic cheerleaders in the past who have worn a ponytail or a pigtail.

"It may or may not be on trend — well, it is trending now, but probably because of Faith — but she had such a high-fashion look with her ponytail and it’s got a personality of its own. We did our second year of the live show, and Faith was a part of that. I asked little girls, ‘Who’s your favourite cheerleader?’ They’re like, ‘Faith, because we like her ponytail!’”
