Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is back for season three, and already the drama is drama-ing. As well as Dayton being cut from the team for a fourth and final time, Emily Awbrey also auditioned for the squad for the first time but didn't make it the whole way. But where is she now?
This week, the reality-docu-drama returned to screens, following the auditions and training camp of the American football team the Dallas Cowboys' cheerleaders, who fight for a coveted spot on the cheerleading squad. This year, 30 veteran dancers return to auditions, with a whole bunch of hopeful newcomers, all fighting it out for six spots.
"As the DCC’s global profile grows, the women at the centre must navigate a new level of attention, mounting pressure, and balancing viral visibility with the pursuit of perfection," the Netflix description explains. "Landmark opportunities — from the team’s first tour and marquee appearances to rapidly growing social media fame — are matched by increased scrutiny from fans around the world. But as always, the squad meets even the most intense of expectations with professionalism, resilience, and trademark poise."
What happens to Emily in Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders season 3?
Emily is a new hopeful who joins the show for season three, after graduating from the University of Arizona and spending a year dancing on cruise ships. When she auditions for the DCC, she's a frontrunner for the director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell, who say she's "one of the strongest dance technicians" in the whole squad.
However, during the training camp, she struggled to pick up the specific style of choreography required by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and also found remembering the moves a challenge.
Despite surviving the first two rounds of cuts during training camp, Emily eventually exits the squad during the third round of eliminations, alongside two additional dancers.
Kelli and Judy said that whle she had one of the "best kicks on the field by far" and was one of their "personal favourites in this training camp." Kelli added, "I hope you do consider re-auditioning. I’d be disappointed if you don’t try out again."
Where is Emily from Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders now?
In the series, we see Emily acknowledging their feedback and telling Judy and Kelli, "I would love to re-audition. And I absolutely will see you back at round one.”
Fans of the show will be happy to know Emily's already back in rotation for the 2026 DCC training camp, after attending preparation classes and submitting an online audition back in March. After making it through the digital stage, she attended the final auditions in June, and was successfully named as one of the 14 rookies who had made it to the training camp.
Go, Emily!
While this doesn't mean she'll definitely make it into the squad next season (we don't currently know the results of the training squad!) it does bring her one step closer to realising her dream of cheerleading on match day. Maybe she'll be a main character for season four?
Judging by her Instagram grid, Emily has also been spending time with her boyfriend, friends and family, and has also done a bit of travelling - visiting Nashville, as well as going to gigs like Taylor Swift.
Could the 2026 season be her year?
