Nicola Walker can do no wrong. From her new dark comedy Alice & Steve, where she has to handle her best friend falling in love wither her... daughter, to River, a dark and twisted police drama. She also gives a stellar performance in Annika, which only came out a couple of years ago - but you might've missed.

Here's everything you need to know about the series, from who else is in it, what the premise is, where you can watch it and more.

What is Annika?

Annika follows an enigmatic and amusing Detective Inspector, who is tasked with solving crimes related to water in Glasgow. Each episode focusses on a different case, with season one seeing gruesome crimes like a brutal drowning and the death of a recently released prisoner taking centre stage.

The description reads, "Detective Inspector Annika Strandhed works for Glasgow's Marine Homicide Unit which investigates the puzzling crimes and unexplained murders that wash up on the shores of Scotland's waters."

Speaking about why she thinks people relate so much to the show, the actor put it down to both the bigger and more subtle themes each episode covers. "What’s lovely is that Annika is about the macro and the micro," Nicola told The Killing Times.

"On a macro level, something appalling and epic and drama-worthy happens in that episode. But on a micro level, you’re looking at a father and a daughter’s very difficult relationship playout. That’s what’s beautiful about the series. It does operatic, and it does realistic. It blends those two so well. It’s what the writer Nick Walker is interested in – how they always go along together in our lives. The dramatic and the mundane live cheek-by-jowl.
