After months of anticipation, Squid Game: The Challenge, the spin-off from original K-drama Squid Game, has landed on Netflix, and already the internet is *hooked*. The 10-part series sees 432 contestants compete to win a life-changing amount of money, while taking on a series of mini-challenges and games. But will there be a season two of Squid Game: The Challenge? Here's what we know.
Has Squid Game: The Challenge season 2 been announced?
Yes! Ahead of the season one finale later today (6th December) Netflix has confirmed a second season will officially be happening.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series said, "There was no red light in our decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we've premiered at Netflix. We're so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series."
Last week ahead of the announcement series producers Stephen Lambert and John Hay told Entertainment Weekly they would love to do a second series.
"That's all in the hands of our dear friends at Netflix, if they have the desire whether they want to do it again," Lambert said. "If viewers love the show, and from what we understand, the people do, Netflix will publish numbers for the first week so it will be interesting to see what those numbers are like. If they're good, then who knows, maybe they'll want to do another season."
Hay continued, "It's brilliant it's landed as well as it has, and we're really enjoying all the responses to it. It probably is too early to judge, but we would obviously love to [do season 2]. We think it's a game with potential, so let's see."
In June 2022, Netflix announced the series, almost a year after the original Squid Game series was released. At the time, Brandon Riegg thanked Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk for his support of the new series, saying, "Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment."
And as well as Squid Game: The Challenge season 2 set to happen, fans can also look forward to a second season of the Squid Game, which is coming to Netflix soon.
Who might compete in Squid Game: The Challenge season 2?
As the season has just been confirmed, it's hard to know for sure. But fans can assume it would see another 456 contestants compete for another $4.56 million, in a series of games and mini-competitions. Depending on what happens in the second series of Squid Game, maybe viewers could assume it would follow a similar pattern to that, too?

What is Squid Game: The Challenge?
It's essentially a gameshow version of the original K-drama, which puts real people from all over the world through similar challenges to the 2021 show.
The official Netflix description reads, "Though the reality version of Squid Game isn’t a matter of life or death, there’s still a lot on the line: 456 players compete to win $4.56 million, Netflix’s largest cash prize in reality television history.
"Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies and ugly betrayals to follow."
The first nine episodes of Squid Game: The Challenge are now streaming on Netflix.
