Leonardo DiCaprio had a lot of *thoughts* about Meryl Streep's character's nude scene in new film Don't Look Up, the movie's director has revealed.
Discussing the Netflix release, which features an all-star cast of Leo, Meryl, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, Jonah Hill and Ariana Grande, Don't Look Up director Adam McKay has teased a moment in which Meryl's character President Orlean appears naked.
While we'd say anything Meryl does is objectively amazing, it turns out Leo wasn't *too* keen on the 72-year-old's character's nude moment.
Asked whether the actress was up for the scene, director McKay told The Guardian, "She is fearless," adding, "And yes, that is a body double."
He went on to share Leonardo's thoughts on the whole thing, explaining, "But you know who had a problem with it? Leo [DiCaprio]. Leo just views Meryl as film royalty … although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film. He didn’t like seeing her with the lower back tattoo, walking for a second naked."
McKay continued, "He [Leo] said something to me like: 'Do you really need to show that?' And I was like: 'It’s President Orlean; it’s not Meryl Streep.'"
Still, it turns out Meryl was on board with the scene, with McKay adding, "But she [Meryl] didn’t even blink. She didn’t even bring it up."
OK, that's us even more obsessed with this film.
Don't Look Up is out in cinemas now, and on Netflix on 24 December 2021.
