Sometimes, you become so used to seeing celebrities rock a certain go-to look that you almost get taken off guard when they try something new. I mean, just look at the 2022 Grammys. Hailey Bieber surprised us all (in the best way) when she traded in her signature beach waves for a dreamy, ethereal plait. And even Kourtney Kardashian left us slightly confused when she chopped her hair off into a bob, only to rock her old-school long lengths on the Grammys red carpet, thanks to some sleek hair extensions. It's hard to keep up on a Monday morning.
But it was Dua Lipa who had us doing a double-take. Seriously, when I was scrolling through my Instagram, I had to quickly scroll back as I didn’t recognise her at first.
The singer has ditched her signature dark brunette hair in favour of platinum blonde. Giving the look an edgier feel, Dua kept her roots dark brunette. I mean, we all know that blonde hair can be super difficult to maintain so at least she won’t have to worry about the upkeep at much.
Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton styled her hair sleek and straight. And to top her look off, Dua completed it with a chic red lip and a bondage-style dress, while she later changed for a stylish black gown – matching Megan Thee Stallion, no less.
Of course, Dua has sported blonde hair before but we don’t know if she actually dyed her hair blonde this time around, or if she’s wearing a wig. If she dyed it, lifting her hair from dark brunette to platinum blonde is a process that would’ve involved bleach – something that Dua hasn’t had a good experience with in the past.
Back in 2020, the singer revealed that a ‘new fringe’ was actually the result of her hair breaking due to damage from bleach. Sharing a picture on Instagram Stories at the time, she wrote: "PSA: This is not a haircut. It’s bleached breakages but I’m runnin w it”, before adding in another post: “When life gives you breakages… make bangs”.
If Dua did dye her hair blonde, here’s hoping she remembers her past experiences… and is slathering on hair masks every chance she gets.
