We've seriously been missing a must-watch police drama on our screens in the last few weeks, sure we love the World Cup and Wimbledon, but sometimes you do just want to channel your inner detective and attempt to solve a dark case. Thankfully, ITV has a brand new series (conveniently) called The Dark airing tonight and we've got all the details you need to know about the cast.
The new six-part drama is seriously chilling and will make you question everything you think you know. Based on GR Halliday’s debut novel From the Shadows, the series sees DI Monica Kennedy investigate the murder of a young man in the Scottish Highlands. As the case intensifies Monica finds herself in a game of cat and mouse, and her own family placed in danger too. Will she be able to find the killer before it's too late?
DI Monica is played by Outlander's Laura Donnelly and she's joined by a string of familiar faces including Helen Baxendale and Mark Rowley. Curious to know more about the cast? Here's all the details.

Laura Donnelly as Detective Monica Kennedy
Who is Detective Monica Kennedy? Monica is the series lead character and is the detective working on the death of the young man discovered in the wilderness. She's also a mum to a young daughter. On top of all of this she's also having to deal with a stalker from a previous case she worked on years ago.
What else has Laura Donnelly been in? Laura, 44, is best known for starring in Outlander as the character of Jenny. She's also starred in series including The Nevers, Beowulf, and Britannia.
Mark Rowley as Detective Connor Crawford
Who is Detective Connor Crawford? Connor is working with Monica on the case and the pair have a rather awkward relationship.
What else has Mark Rowley been in? This is not Mark's, 36, first police drama, as the actor has previously appeared in Trigger Point and Karen Pirie. He's also known for starring in The Last Kingdom, SAS: Rogue Heroes and the Netflix adaptation of One Day.
Helen Baxendale as Bethany Morgan
Who is Bethany Morgan? Bethany is a local farmer and mother, who has connections with Monica from another case she worked in.
What else has Helen Baxendale been in? You'll most likely recognise Helen, 56, for starring as Emily Waltham, Ross' English wife, in Friends. She's also known for playing Rachel in Cold Feet, and for starring in Cuckoo, Noughts + Crosses, and An Unsuitable Job For a Woman.
Emun Elliot as Barclay Adams
Who is Barclay Adams? Barclay is Bethany's partner and the pair are linked to a past case of Monica's.

Rona Morison as Philly
Who is Philly? Philly is a woman who is connected to a dark and mysterious case Monica worked years ago before the birth of her daughter.
