• Love Island USA season 8 star Kayda Bosse named her fan community “Kayda Dolls,” sparking backlash from Olandria Carthen’s fan base, who felt the name mimicked “Ola Dolls.”
  • Fans accused Kayda of appropriating Olandria’s fandom identity, with some claiming she “colonized” the name, leading to heated debates across Instagram and TikTok comment sections.
  • Kayda changed her broadcast channel name to “Bosses” after receiving criticism, although supporters and others noted the term “doll” predates both Islanders’ usage in trans and hip-hop communities.

As one of the Core 4 on Love Island USA season 8, Kayda Bosse quickly became a fan favorite because of her unapologetic attitude and serious makeup skills in the Villa. Her momentum hasn’t stopped since she came in fourth place alongside her match, Zach Georgiou, gaining more than 2.7 million followers on TikTok and 1.6 million on Instagram. As her following continues to grow, Kayda took it upon herself to name her fan community in an Instagram broadcast channel…and some other Love Island fans weren’t exactly thrilled with her choice.

Confused? I thought you might be. Let’s break down the recent drama surrounding Kayda’s fandom name, shall we?

It all started when Kayda named her Instagram broadcast channel

On August 7, Kayda created her Instagram broadcast channel, aka a space where she can send message blasts, photos, voice notes, and other content to anyone who joins. She called her channel the Kayda Dolls with a pink heart, bow, and ballet-slipper emojis.

Another Love Island USA fandom didn’t seem pleased with Kayda’s fan community name

Once fans of season 7 runner-up Olandria Carthen, aka the Ola Dolls, caught wind of Kayda’s broadcast channel, they didn’t seem too pleased. Since Olandria continued making a name for herself beyond the Villa, she lovingly started calling her supporters dolls and dropped girly pink emojis in her messaging.

Some were understandably upset about the situation and pleaded with Kayda to swap her broadcast channel for another original fandom name.

Others accused her, a light-skinned Black woman, of “colonizing” Olandria’s fandom name for her own gain. Some even took the situation to Kayda’s comment sections on Instagram and TikTok.

Kayda’s fans came to her defense before she changed the name of her broadcast channel

Naturally, Kayda’s supporters stepped in to defend their girl, too. “Calling kayda a colonizer over an emoji is lowkewy insane like??” one fan wrote, while another said, “They are oddly similar but nothing I would get mad at, people too invested in other peoples lives that’s all that is.”

However, Kayda swapped the name of her fan community and broadcast channel simply to “Bosses” after receiving backlash. She originally kept her girly emojis in, too, until she changed them for a martini glass.

Others pointed out that trans women and female rappers have long used the term “dolls” before the girls adopted it for their supporters.

“The DOLLS are for Trans Women. So neither Olandria [nor] Kayda own it. They just appropriated it,” one person alleged under a recap from Stephanie Tleji, aka @stephwithdadeets on Instagram.

Kayda seemingly responded to the drama with a comment under a TikTok she posted on August 8, writing, “Yall im laughing over here😭😭.”

Olandria hasn’t weighed in on the situation yet

Olandria hasn’t publicly addressed the situation, although an edited video of her is circulating across Reddit.

The clip, which features Olandria shouting out her supporters, was reposted by a fan account with the caption, “POV: ur fans started b*llying a new islander.”

In the original video, which was previously posted and unrelated to all the drama, Olandria says, in part, “Keep going, keep doing you, you all are doing amazing. No notes from me.”

It seems that one person on Reddit is attempting to spread false information, claiming that Olandria had posted the edit in a “Subscribers Only” post to her TikTok followers.

Another questioned the video, writing, “If it’s true then sue me ig but that sounds sus and this looks really fake. like someone took a video out of context and put that text over it. idc about defending olandria but if there’s no proof i wouldn’t take it for truth or spread it ngl.”

Olandria has yet to respond to all the drama, so stand by for updates!
