We all know hairdressers get the best gossip, but secrets about murder? Well that's what new drama series The Hairdresser Mysteries is set to explore.

Starring the iconic Sally Phillips, best known for starring in Miranda and the Bridget Jones movie series, The Hairdresser Mysteries is set to become our new favourite cosy crime drama as Philips stars as a hairdresser/detective in a 1970s village who begins to uncover mysteries in her small community. Small town crime with a host of quirky characters? It sounds ideal for fans of Ludwig, Death Valley and Beyond Paradise.

What is The Hairdresser Mysteries about?

The new BBC series stars Sally Phillips as Lili Petal a hairdresser who moves away from the big city to set up shop at the top of a cobbled street in a small town.

According to the BBC, Lily soon starts, "Using her own brand of uncannily developed hairdressing intuitive, empathy and understanding to solve the mysteries of the village."

The series will have six episodes, each 45 minutes long and was written by Jim Cartwright.

Who is in the cast of The Hairdresser Mysteries?

Leading the series is Sally Phillips as Lili Petal and here's who is also on the cast:

  • Charlotte Jordan as Clary Coombs, Lili's assistant and essentially Holmes to her Watson
  • Ben Castle-Gibb as PC Adam Watson, a young police officer who has a thing for Clary
  • Sunetra Sarker as Wincey Evans, the village's biggest gossiper
  • Clive Rowe as Lonnie, the manager of the local charity shop
  • Guy Henry as Race Runard, the village's antiques dealer

The show is also set to have a number of guest stars throughout the six episodes including Wendi Peters who will be playing Gloria Crudd, another newcomer to the village hoping to set up an ice cream parlour.

When is The Hairdresser Mysteries out?

We don't have long to wait as The Hairdresser Mysteries is due to arrive on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in July later this year.
