"A phenomenal thriller": Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson is "excellent" in new Channel 5 psychological drama

Channel 5 have been providing some really great TV recently. From The Hardacres to Number One Fan and a dramatised look at Madeline McCann's disappearance, the channel has been keeping us gripped each evening - and tonight is no exception.

The brilliant Eleanor Tomlinson from Poldark stars in a new mystery thriller, which airs its first episode this evening [2nd June.]. But what exactly is The Fortune about, who else stars in the cast and when can you catch every episode? Here's what you need to know.

Ready for a twisty-turny thriller? The Fortune tells the story of a seemingly normal family: A waitress Amanda Blakefield, her husband, a chef at the café, Jimmy and their young son Luke. But when a mysterious person who she's never met before arrives at their door, the last thing she expects is for them to hand her an enormous inheritance and country estate.

Things go from strange to, er, weird, when Amanda finds herself pulled into the orbit of the Worrall Family, and in turn is forced to confront long buried secrets about her own family history, and everything she thought to be true in her life. Who can she trust? How does she know what to she believe? And what will she do about the money?

The official synopsis adds, "A mysterious inheritance turns Amanda’s world upside down. And the truth could destroy everything."

It's got a stellar cast, including Eleanor Tomlinson, who you'll recognise from Poldark and The Couple Next Door as Amanda. The rest of the cast includes:

• Jimmy is played by Matthew Lewis, aka Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter franchise
• Sandy, Amanda's best friend, is played by EastEnders' Danielle Walters
• Nina Wadia, also from EastEnders, plays Laura Mistry, the solicitor handling the inheritance
• Rebecca Front plays Fiona Worrall
• James Younger plays Luke Blakefield
• Denis Lawson plays Martin Worrall
• Callum Woodhouse plays Anthony Worrall
• Stephen Tompkinson plays Boots Mackintosh
• Paula Wilcox plays Linda, Amanda's mother
• Danielle Walters plays Sandy

The first episode of The Fortune lands on Channel 5 at 9pm on 2nd June, with the second episode landing on Wednesday 3rd June, also at 9pm. Viewers then have to wait for six days before the next episode airs. The full release schedule:

The Telegraph gave it a brilliant review: "A premise superior to Channel 5’s usual line in potboilers gets a cast to match in Aschlin Ditta’s shifty, unnerving thriller."

The Times said, "the broadcaster continues its impressive run of entertaining thriller series with another from the team that brought us last year’s The Feud, which starred Jill Halfpenny... [The plot] is served warmly and with great efficiency."
