Speculation about Tom Hardy and MobLand has been rife this week, after reports emerged alleging he had been fired from season three over his behaviour on set were reported by Puck and Variety. However, a new report from the latter publication has now disputed the claims, insisting the "door is still open" for the actor to return for more episodes.

As fans of the show know, Tom plays a pivotal role in the series as Harry Da Souza, the fixer for a notorious gangster family, the Harrigans. Earlier this week, reports claimed Tom "was not asked to return to the series following on-set issues with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios, and others.”

According to the claims, the actor was allegedly late, gave unsolicited notes on the script, and tried to change lines while filming. He was also allegedly — at least per an insider — frustrated that the show was “becoming more about his costars", including Dame Helen Mirren.

However, Helen herself has since spoken out to diminish the claims, sharing a poignant Instagram post to show her support for Tom. "Love you now and always, Helen" she wrote on Instagram, instantly throwing water on anyone fanning the reports of a feud.

And now, Variety have gone one step further to contradict an earlier report that Tom would not be returning for more episodes.

In a story published on 28th May, a 'source close to production' said: "Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for season 3 and things are being worked through creatively."

They continued, "Often his ideas are very sound. And he wants them taken seriously. [Executive producer] Jez kind of hasn’t got the time to deal with those notes, so it becomes problematic."

They also added that Guy Ritchie, who executive produces and directed many of the episodes "likes working with Tom", and is probably pushing to "make it work" with him on set.

Variety added that while "the tensions were real" on set, "Hardy was not officially fired and the trio are currently trying to resolve their creative differences."

Here's to hoping it all works out!
