Ever since Joanne Froggatt appeared on our TV screens as loyal ladies' maid Anna in Downton Abbey, we've been obsessed with the actress. From her appearance in recent gangster series MobLand, to leading thriller series such as North Shore and Liar, there's nothing she does we won't watch. And if you're looking for your next must-watch series then you need to add Joanne's forgotten series Angela Black to your list ASAP.
Here's everything to know about it.
What is Angela Black about?
Originally airing in 2021, Angela Black is a dark thriller from the writers and brothers Harry and Jack Williams, who have written shows such as The Missing and The Tourist.
It's a six-part series about a woman named Angela Meyer, who has a seemingly normal life but is actually stuck in an abusive relationship with her husband Olivier. She is one day approached by a mysterious man called Ed, who tells her Olivier has hired him to kill her. However, rather than doing so the pair strike up a surprisingly alliance and work together to turn the tables back on Olivier.
When the show debuted on ITV five years ago, The Guardian praised Joanne's performance saying: "It [Angela Black] benefits from a tremendous performance from Froggatt, who gives us a woman utterly drained yet jumping with nerves, hypervigilant yet weighed down by the burden of misery and dread she carries."
Meanwhile the Sydney Morning Herald called the series "dark but eminently watchable six-parter" and the Radio Times said: "Take away the car chases and elaborate murder plots, and this would still be an accomplished and powerful drama, and one that will resonate."
