After months of rumours and speculation, the new Strictly Come Dancing hosts have officially been announced, with Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe and professional dancer Johannes Radebe taking on the roles. But who was snubbed and didn't make the cut?
If you went anywhere near the internet yesterday, you'll know that the BBC revealed the new presenting trio who'll take over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on the dancing competition show.
The chances are you also will have seen a number of high profile celebrities and presents also revealing they had auditioned for the roles, but hadn't made the cut. Celebrities? Being humble? In this economy? We absolutely love to see it.
4 presenters who auditioned for the Strictly Come Dancing job
Rylan Clark
"Just wanted to say as it was reported I was in 'The Race' for Strictly, the biggest congrats to my Emma and equal congrats to Johannes and Josh. You're all going to have the best time. Made up for yous. This wasn't my time sadly but am extremely grateful to even have been considered. I'm taking the news really well (see next slide) but genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three x", he wrote. The next slide in question? A clip from his iconic appearance at Judges' Houses during his stint on The X Factor. Never change, Rylan!
Zoe Ball
Zoe previously revealed on her podcast that she hadn't made the cut for the Strictly job.
"I didn't get it, but it's OK, " she told her co-host Jo Whiley on the new episode of her Dig It podcast. "I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days. Obviously the papers have got wind of certain things, I don't think think they've got the full story yet, and I don't think the BBC have confirmed everything as of yet. "
She continued, "No, I didn't get it, but I tell you what, if it's who I think has got it, we're in safe hands and our new hosts are going to be fabulous. I'm so thrilled for them, and hopefully at a later date, we'll be able to talk about them in more detail."
She added on the Instagram post, "CREW. congrats Emma Jojo and Josh. You're gonna ROCK IT 🪩🪩🪩♥️♥️♥️"
Sara Cox
Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox revealed on her show that she had also auditioned for the role, but didn't get the part. "I tried out for Strictly!" she said. "I went along and it was the most gorgeous experience. The whole thing was really great fun." But, she insists, she had recently landed her dream role on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, so it's not all bad!
Fleur East
Speaking on Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Fleur shared that it was her dream job, and that she was "lying to herself" when she said she was fine with not getting it. But, she added, that she knew Emma Willis would do an amazing job.
"We were just talking about Emma Willis being announced and I was like, 'Yeah, great, amazing' and I’ve kind of lied to myself that I’d be all right with not doing it or not being considered for the job. But I’m kind of bothered…
"So, when you’re within touching distance of something like that, and even considering it for a minute, I never allowed myself to really go fully there, but I did think about it. I was like: 'That would be amazing.' So yeah, I guess I have been lying to myself when I’ve been saying, I’m fine. I’m coming to terms with it, but I feel I was okay before it was confirmed that someone [has] got the job."
She commented on the Instagram announcement, "3 of you??? Exciting times!!! Congratulations to you all! Let’s gooo 🙌❤️"
We can't wait for the new season now!
