Already finished Off Campus due to cancelling all your plans and locking in? Same, and if you have questions about the Hunter Davenport of it all, we have answers.
Season one ends with Hunter being revealed as the guy Allie slept with in order to put some distance between herself and Dean. She thinks his name is Carter thanks to a fake ID, but in the final moments of the season he waltzes into Malone’s and we learn that he’s actually the newest player on the Briar U hockey team…and Dean is not a fan. It’s clear their issues have something to do with Dean’s sister, Summer, but it’s pretty TBD at this point.
So, what’s the deal with Hunter in the Off Campus book series? Basically the show is a total departure. In the novels, he’s simply introduced as a teammate in Dean’s book The Score (they get along fine!). He also has his own breakout book called The Play in the Briar U series, and Dean’s sister Summer has a breakout book of her own called The Chase.
Showrunner Louisa Levy tells Swoon that Hunter’s arrival in season one is “a launching point to hopefully explore some of Dean’s backstory in season two. But it really was an opportunity to put a little bit of a twist in their storyline and prolong it just a little bit, so that we have lots of room to play with them in future seasons. And we also wanted to nod to the book fans that we might have some other characters that you might not expect showing up in fun ways.”
Can’t wait, honestly.
