Warning: Spoilers ahead for season four of Beyond Paradise.

The final episode of season four of Beyond Paradise aired tonight on ITV and it's got fans of the TV series questioning what's next for Humphrey Goodman and the show.

The much-loved spin-off show of Death in Paradise has hooked the biggest crime drama fans since it first began in 2023, but the latest season of the show has viewers panicking over whether or not it will be back for season five.

Why? Well, last week's episode saw Detective Humphrey Goodman confronted with making the final decision about who will be leaving Shipton Abbott's police force.

A clip of Humphrey saying "New starts all round" alongside the synopsis for tonight's episode confirmed it would indeed be Humphrey who is set to step away from the force. BBC's synopsis reads: "It’s Humphrey’s last day as detective inspector, but there’s no time to dwell, as the whole team is eagerly awaiting the town’s annual pirate festival."

And yes, we're still not over the scenes that just went down in the finale. But what does this mean for another season of the show? Fret not, because we put our detective caps on ourselves and did some digging.

Will there be a season 5 of Beyond Paradise?

Kris Marshall - who plays the iconic role of Humphrey Goodman - appeared on Chris Martin's radio show TFI Friday Unplugged.

Martin asked the actor, as quoted by The Express: "We're in season four now, 5,6,7 (seasons), that's probably where it's gonna be and where it's gonna go, and you'll all be happy at the end of maybe six series. Do you think they could really stir it up in season five?"

Marshall responded: "Well, we're about to start shooting season five."

As a fan of a show, obviously, Martin asked Marshall what he "thinks of" season five so far.

"Well, I mean, how long can a marriage last?" he joked, before adding "I am kidding, I am kidding. I am not gonna give away spoilers, they haven't even written it yet."

TV Zone UK has also stated season five of the show has been commissioned by BBC, reporting filming is set to begin in Devon in July 2026. Cosmopolitan UK has contacted the team behind Beyond Paradise for comment.

Why might Beyond Paradise be renewed for a 5th season?

Beyond Paradise became the UK's most watched new drama of 2023 when it first took to our screens - which is really reason enough for the crime drama to be renewed for a fifth season.

The cosy crime drama has continued to attract millions of viewers each year so it would be silly not to, right? Right BBC?!!

But with Beyond Paradise's fourth season having come to an end, what can you expect from BBC One on your Friday evenings looking ahead?

What will Beyond Paradise be replaced with on TV?

Well, you can wave goodbye to turning into another crime drama on BBC One at 8pm on Fridays following Beyond Paradise's conclusion tonight.

The slot is set to be replaced with a mixture of comedy but also factual programming - David Attenborough's 100 Years on Planet Earth set to air at 8:30pm until 10:00pm next Friday, 8th May.

The following week will see Masterchef take to our screens in the slot instead.

But fear not, because there's plenty of other crime dramas available on other channels to get you through as you wait for further news of season five of Beyond Paradise to be released.
