This weekend, Selena Gomez took to socials to reveal her new blonde hair, and it’s safe to say we're obsessed.
Selena showed off the transformation on her Rare Beauty Instagram account on Saturday (24 April), commenting that she’ll need to update her makeup looks to match her new ‘do. Considering she’s done a total 180 from her trademark dark brown locks, we’re not surprised.
Hair stylists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, who co-own Nine Zero One Salon, have been styling Selena’s hair for over ten years, and are the creative masterminds behind her new look.
“She typically keeps it pretty natural, but this time she went for a big change,” the stylists told Elle. They also explained their decision to keep the roots her natural shade, to make growing out the look easier. Not to mention, roots are totally on trend right now anyway.
“It’s an edgier look and perfect for summer,” the stylists added. The pair also revealed the look took more than eight hours and over 200 foils to achieve, taking her hair seven shades lighter. “This blonde is unique to [Selena]” they said, “we had to make sure there was an equal balance of cool and warm for her skin tone.”
Back in February in an Instagram Live, Selena said she was thinking about reviving her blonde hair, which she last rocked in 2017. And it seems she was waiting for filming of her new TV series to wrap up before taking the plunge.

She’s recently been working with Hulu on the upcoming series Only Murders In the Building. On the show, she plays a true-crime fan who teams up with fellow neighbours to solve a murder in their apartment building.
The season is due for release later this year.
