The TV show is three episodes long and is set in 1939. Eight strangers arrive on the mysterious 'Soldier Island' off the coast of Devon, where they have been invited to a hotel by a "Mr and Mrs Owen. However, when they arrive the owners are nowhere to be found and instead the caretakers Thomas and Ethel Rogers are the ones hosting them. Maxwell-Martin plays the role of Ethel Rogers.

At dinner time the guests sit down, only to hear a gramophone go off and an anonymous voice accuses each of the guests of having committed a murder. Soon, the guests mysteriously die one by one....
