Blue Lights follows a group of new Police Service of Northern Ireland recruits in Belfast, who are chucked into the deep end on the job. Grace, Annie and Tommy are dealing with divided communities and criminal gangs, alongside their own personal struggles, as they attempt to fight crime on the front line.

Fans have been obsessed with the first three seasons, and now a fourth is on its way. Here's everything you need to know about it, from the storyline to a release date and cast.

What will happen in Blue Lights season 4?

The synopsis for season four reads: "Three years into their jobs as response officers, Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster, and Annie Conlon are operating at their limit, facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control.

"Meanwhile the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous and long-buried secret that leads to chaos both inside the police, and across the criminal underworld. As they grapple with big decisions about their future, Grace, Tommy and Annie must find the courage to face the greatest threat they have ever encountered: the truth."

Co-creators and co-writers Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson added that the fourth season would "reveal a lot of dark secrets, examines what justice looks like in Belfast today, and ties together the past, present, and futures of Grace, Annie and Tommy in an action-packed story."

When will Blue Lights season 4 be released?

There's currently no confirmed release date, but we can try and predict based on previous seasons:

  • Season one - March 2023
  • Season two - April 2024
  • Season three - September 2025

So, based on the release dates so far, we can almost guarantee the series will drop in 2026, and given it's already July, we're expecting it at some point before Christmas!

Released on 1st July, Blue Lights gave a first look teaser at the new episodes. "Blue Lights follows a group of frontline response officers working in present-day Belfast," the caption read. "Alongside regulars Siân Brooke (Grace), Martin McCann (Stevie), Katherine Devlin (Annie), Nathan Braniff (Tommy) and Frank Blake (Shane), the new series sees the return of Richard Dormer, who played Gerry Cliff in series one, Hannah McClean as solicitor Jen Robinson, and Jonathan Harden as disgraced former Inspector Jonty, in an episode that answers key questions from the past."
