- Several women from Let’s Marry Harry have confirmed they didn’t know it was Harry Jowsey they’d marry on the show.
- Contestant Rickiyah McGrady confirmed in a TikTok video that only “half” of the women competing knew beforehand.
- The drama unfolded just days before the show’s finale.
In no surprise to anyone, Let’s Marry Harry has found itself embroiled in controversy—no, not because of Harry Jowsey’s messy public breakups or celeb feuds, but because only a select few women on the show knew that the end goal of the show was to end up in a literal marriage with Harry.
“Did you know that about half of the girls who were on Let’s Marry Harry did not know that Harry Jowsey would be the man they would be engaged to and possibly marrying when they were cast for a dating show,” contestant Rickiyah McGrady (who—spoiler alert!—decided to self-eliminate in episode 4) shared in a truly wild TikTok video. “Did you know that I was one of those girls?”
Two more cast members backed up KiKi’s story in the comments section of her TikTok video—Debralee Tomberlin wrote, “Like we did NOT know what we were signing up for,” while Shaine Hinson added, “They told me literally four days before I was like wtf.”
Another woman in the comments named Veronica explained that she—unlike some of the women who appeared on the show—was given the info before she could be cast. “I found out during the interview processes and I was like, no. Absolutely not,” she wrote. “At first they just said he was kinda famous and I immediately clocked ‘Netflix famous’ and then on the third interview they told me and I knew it, fuck no.”
Harry has yet to address these claims in a statement or on his socials, but has embarked on a little press tour for his latest foray into reality TV. In an interview with People published on August 7, he explained that it was a bit “daunting” for him to do the show.
“In this experience, it got a little bit scary,” he told the outlet. “I remember halfway through, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to upset another girl by kissing all the other girls.’ That was a little bit daunting. There was a lot of push and pull, wanting to explore connections with someone, as well as trying to not to upset other people…That was pretty scary.”
He continued, “This was such a unique opportunity where I just put my phone away, and I got to be in this environment with these girls that are as serious as I am about marriage. What other chance would you get to do that? How could I say no to it? It was really, really exciting, and I’m really grateful to be able to be a part of it.”
The Let’s Marry Harry finale airs on Netflix on Wednesday, August 12. 😬
