I don’t know about you, but hours of my childhood were spent sitting too close to the TV and binging as many Disney Channel Original Movies (aka DCOM’s) in a day as possible. Although many of those plot lines have faded from memory, the release of Camp Rock 3 has me feeling the nostalgia all over again.

Liamani Segura, a self-proclaimed DCOM girl, was born the same year the original Camp Rock premiered. Now, after roles in the similarly iconic Descendants and High School Musical franchises, she’s stepping into the starring role of Sage in Camp Rock 3. She leads a new cast of campers but, thankfully, a few things haven’t changed: the Jonas Brothers are reprising their roles as Connect 3 and Demi Lovato, Mitchie Torres herself, is doing double duty on screen and as an Executive Producer.

Curious about this new generation? Luckily, Cosmo got the chance to debrief with Liamani on all things Camp Rock 3, new music, dream roles, and everything in between.

Your character in Camp Rock 3, Sage, is described as “bold and determined”. What else should we know about Sage, and in what ways do you see yourself in her?

Sage is both of those things, but also realizes over time that she has a soft spot for her new friends at camp. She loves to share the spotlight with them and helps motivate them to be the stars that they are. Sage and I share a love for writing music, we both have big hearts, and we will do anything for the people we love.

I know you loved watching music videos on YouTube to develop your performance skills. Is there one that’s been particularly influential in shaping you as a performer?

My earliest memory of watching music videos goes way back to Judy Garland. When I was super little, I was obsessed with her “Get Happy” performance. I loved everything about old Hollywood. As I got older, my music taste started to change and I was being introduced to all of the greats like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and Celine Dion. I tried to emulate them every time I sang. They really helped shape the kind of artist I am today. I love listening to real vocalists.

Both the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato came back to work on Camp Rock 3. Did you feel any pressure when approaching such a beloved film franchise?

Stepping into the Camp Rock family was a bit nerve wracking for me only because it is so iconic and has such a beloved fandom. Growing up, I was such a big fan of the franchise. I remember being introduced to it when I was about 6 years old and I always felt like I saw myself in Demi Lovato. When I received the call that I booked the role, I felt deep down that I had some big shoes to fill. I just hope that everyone sees how much hard work, passion, and love went into making this.

Going away to camp often involves disconnecting and going “off-grid.” How do you typically unplug from the online world and spend your time offline?

To be honest, being on social media is a job in itself. It can be scary, fun and exhausting at times. When my family sees that I’m starting to get stressed or bothered, they point it out to me and I focus on other things that ease my mind. I love being outside in nature, throwing on my headphones and listening to my favorite music and just being around family and friends. I feel like all these things keep me humble and sane.

Finding your personal style can be challenging as a teen because you are trying to fit in with your peers while navigating who you are as an individual. What goes into picking your red carpet looks, especially for a premiere?

I have a really great team! We only started working together recently, but we work together so well. It can be a bit hard finding the perfect look; sometimes it takes weeks and other times, it’s just a few days. It all depends on the occasion. But I love a good Pinterest mood board! I feel like I am constantly updating my boards with new things that I’m into. When it comes to picking a premiere look, I give my stylist a vibe with a few pictures and then she brings it to life! She’s incredible.

The Moana cover you posted on TikTok went super viral, amassing over 22.9 million views and hundreds of comments (many of which proposed you being “the next Moana”). Do you have any dream roles for the future?

A lot of my viral moments online were unexpected—this being one of them. A few years back, I went to Hawaii with some friends and we were just having fun making videos. Just kids being kids, doing what we love to do. As for a dream role, I would have to say being in a scary movie would be a dream come true. Scary movies have been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. Fun fact, I was supposed to be born on Halloween and always had Halloween birthday parties! I would also love to be in Pirates of the Caribbean. That’s another one of my childhood comfort movies! Anything Tim Burton, Lin-Manuel Miranda I would just be over the moon ecstatic to be a part of.

You released your album Dear Little Me in 2025, reflecting on your journey into adulthood. If the roles were reversed and you were writing Dear Future Me, what would you say to your future self?

I would tell her how proud I am of her. She continued following her dreams and never gave up despite everyone having different opinions of her. She’s gone so far and has kept God and her family first always. I hope that future me will continue to do all these things and always treat everyone with kindness.

What’s your favorite DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie) relationship?

Growing up, my favorites were all the High School Musical movies, Camp Rock, Lemonade Mouth, Teen Beach Movie, and Descendants. Pretty much all of them! But the relationship I was most obsessed with was Mitchie and Shane from Camp Rock. They were so cute to me.

Ok, I know Camp Rock 3 just premiered. What else in your world are you excited about?

I have so many things in the works that have taken some time but are so worth it. I’ve been in the studio between projects; I’m really proud of what we have created and can’t wait for the world to hear it. You may or may not get to hear something new on the World’s Collide Tour...

Overall, I feel extremely grateful to have all these blessings in my life. I just want to thank my team for all their hard work and let them know how much I appreciate them! I also want to thank all my fans for their endless love and support; it means the world to me and more. I see the edits and comments and you all just fill my heart with joy!
