• Margaret Qualley paired a black gown with a polarizing footwear trend of 2026 at the Dog Stars premiere on August 20.
  • The look sparked mixed reactions online, with fans questioning the fashion choice.
  • Either way, Margaret caused a ton of conversation surrounding the movie’s premiere, thanks to her look.

There aren’t a ton of fashion choices that leave people shook in our good year 2026. The era of Lady Gaga rocking her infamous (yet iconic) meat dress at the VMAs is long gone, and even a good naked dress doesn’t bring that much shock value these days. But leave it to screen queen Margaret Qualley to revive a “Wait, she’s wearing what?” factor the red carpet has been lacking lately.

Margaret wore a simple and stunning black gown adorned with round fringe detailing to the world premiere of her new movie, Dog Stars, on August 20. I know what you’re thinking: This seems pretty standard. How could a black dress break the internet?

Well, once your eyes pan down to check out her full look, it’s hard to miss all 10 of her naked toes touching the ground. It’s all thanks to the most polarizing footwear trend of 2026: barefoot sandals. The particular style Margaret’s rocking debuted during Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel resort 2027 fashion show back in April.

The Chanel of it all isn’t entirely far-fetched for Margaret, who’s served as an official ambassador for the fashion house since 2021. What is kind of random, though, is the fact that she let her dogs bark on the red carpet for her new flick, in which she shares the screen with Jacob Elordi.

It’s unclear whether Margaret’s longtime stylist, Patricia Villirillo, put together this look, but it’d make sense, since she works closely with both the actor and Chanel.

Either way, her premiere look nearly broke the internet with a string of mixed reactions. One fan on Reddit wrote, “I love the dress but the shoes piss me off,” while another added, “Recession indicator. They don’t want to make the whole shoe but will slap the C logo onto the heel cup?”

Perhaps one person puts it best, adding, “The dogs are the star alright.”

I’m not hating on her fashion choice, per se. It’s actually refreshing to see a piece of clothing spark this much conversation. I’d just hate to see Margaret miss out on a bag since she’s showing off her feet for free. I guess that Chanel sponsorship makes up for it!
