• An intruder trespassed into the grounds of Kate Middleton and Prince William's London property.
  • The man climbed over a fence twice in the days leading up to Christmas.
  • William and Kate were not home at the time, but they had been in London several days earlier.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently living in their new "forever" home, Forest Lodge, and by all accounts it's incredibly secure. We're talking fencing and CCTV, not to mention newly closed roads that help ensure the couple and their family are left alone.

But William and Kate also have an apartment at Kensington Palace, which they stay in while in London, and an intruder (who's currently in custody) reportedly managed to climb into the grounds ahead of the festive period. Twice.

According to The Sun, a person with a "heavy rucksack" was seen climbing a fence and trespassing on the property, and was then arrested in the palace gardens. The incidents occurred on December 21 and December 23, just a few days before Christmas.

"The fact he repeated the offending after being given bail, given the nature of it, gives serious cause for concern," Dai Davies, the former head of the Met Police’s Royal and Specialist Protection branch, tells The Sun.

"The police must work out what level of danger the Royal Family were in, and based on the charges, why on Earth he was given bail? Any attempt to get into Kensington Palace needs careful investigation into the motive, any mental health concerns, and if the person is fixated on a royal.

If this person wasn’t already on a list, he certainly will be now. You never know what someone may do when they attempt to break in. There are still a number of royals living at Kensington Palace, so any intrusion is of course concerning."

William and Kate weren't at the palace when the person broke in, but they had been in London in the days before. They haven't released a comment on the break in.
