Today is an especially poignant one for the Royal Family as they say goodbye to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who recently died at the age of 99. His final resting place is to be in St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Due to coronavirus restrictions the guest list for the funeral has been scaled down to just thirty, but will still include all of the Queen and Philip's children - Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward - and their grandchildren, one of whom is Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.
It's known that both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed a close relationship with Philip throughout his life, as well as a strong bond with the Queen, something that Kate has paid tribute to through her choice of jewellery for the funeral.
Kate opted to wear a black veil, along with pearl earrings and a pearl choker necklace, both of which are reported to be on a long-term loan to her from Her Majesty (and part of the Queen's personal collection). Wearing the Queen's jewellery is a special way for Kate to show her loyalty the newly widowed monarch.
The Japanese Pearl choker necklace is also a sweet nod to a happier occasion for Her Majesty and Philip, as it was worn by the Duchess of Cambridge during a celebration dinner for the Queen and Prince Philip's 70th wedding anniversary. It was also loaned to Prince William and Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana in 1982.
Sadly because of the COVID-19 rules restricting the number of guests (and possibly because they're still all of such a young age) none of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - were able to attend the funeral for their great-grandfather.
Everyone's clicking on...
Ahead of the funeral, the Queen shared a previously unseen photo of herself and Prince Philip, in which the royal couple are pictured sitting together in a beauty spot in the Coyles of Muick in Aberdeenshire, a 30-minute drive from the Queen's Scottish residence Balmoral. It was taken by Prince Edward's wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
Our thoughts are will the entire royal family during this incredibly sad time.
