King Charles faced a deeply awkward moment yesterday at a royal reception, when he got chatting to legendary singer, Rod Stewart – who was keen to chat about the monarch's recent visit to the US.
The King's trip to the United States raised more than a few eyebrows, given President Trump's recent disparaging comments about British troops not pulling their weight in Afghanistan and claiming that without the US the UK would be "speaking German", amongst many other offensive remarks about the UK.
At the King's Trust event, Charles got chatting to Rod, who said the quiet part out loud and congratulated the King on the successful visit, which included a much-praised speech in which the King subtly clapped back that without the UK the US would be "speaking French".
Addressing the royal, Rod didn't mince his words and said, "May I say well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb. You put that little rat bag in his place."

Naturally, as a royal, Charles is expected to remain politically neutral at all times and had no choice but to awkwardly laugh in response to the singer's remarks, which were made in earshot of the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood (who also seemed to laugh along).
Everyone's clicking on...
It's not the first time the monarch has met the musician, with the pair being pictured together as far back as 1986, while celebrating the King's Trust (then known as the Prince's Trust) turning ten.
During his four-day visit to the United States, the King also used his soft power to speak about the importance of NATO (the transatlantic alliance formed between the US and Europe following WW2), of supporting Ukraine and in caring for our environment – a sentiment that Trump, a climate change denier, does not appear to think much of.
Three cheers to Rod for, err, saying what plenty of others were thinking?
