It's been a very sad few days for the Royal Family, following the death of the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, at the age of 99. After a poignant statement about his passing was shared with the world, in which the Duke of Edinburgh was described as Her Majesty's "beloved husband", individual members of the family have been sharing their own special tributes to him.

Now, following suit after Prince Philip's other grandchildren, Prince Harry and Prince William, Princess Eugenie has posted her own personal tribute in memory of her grandfather. Eugenie chose to pay her respects in the form of a letter to Philip, which she uploaded to Instagram alongside a couple of photos of them together from over the years.

Her sweet tribute begins by saying how comforting it has been to hear memories of the Duke shared by members of the public and those who have benefitted from partaking in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme: "Dearest Grandpa,⁣ We all miss you. ⁣You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days. ⁣People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them."

Eugenie then continued on to say, "I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy. ⁣I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day.⁣ I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer."

She ended the moving words by thanking Prince Philip for his dedication to the Queen, throughout their 73 years of marriage. "I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren. ⁣Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you."

Finally, she ended the letter by signing off "⁣With all my love, Eugenie".

Everyone's clicking on...

Eugenie and Philip evidently shared a very close bond, something that the Princess reflected upon when she recently chose to name her first child, a son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

In his tribute to Prince Philip, Prince Harry also referenced the Duke's love of a family barbecue and his sense of humour (describing him as a "master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right 'til the end"), sentiments echoed by Prince William also.

Clearly the Duke of Edinburgh is incredibly well-loved and missed by those closest to him. His funeral will take place this coming Saturday and due to COVID-19 restrictions has a smaller guest list of just 30 people.
