For every statement piece, a plain white T-shirt saves us. They are true wardrobe staples — our ride or die — that effortlessly pull together an outfit.
Naturally, I gravitate toward them at least once a week, whether layered under a casual sweater for an effortless moment or paired with a fun jacket to keep things business casual. It’s easy, almost too easy, because a white tee can stand on its own as a look or be styled with fun pieces, from decorative skirts to an oversized bag. Not only that, but they come in every fit imaginable: form-fitting, tiny cropped silhouettes, oversized and baggy – whatever matches your mood that day. For that reason alone, white tees will always be the capsule wardrobe's unsung hero that comes to our rescue.
So we already know white T-shirts are one of the best basics to have in our sartorial arsenal, but with summer quickly approaching, let’s go over a few ways to style them for a chic and elevated daytime look this season.
Clean and easy
If you have a white tee, pair it with white bottoms – be it a skirt or trousers. Crisp, clean, and polished, an all-white outfit will always hit the spot, especially during the summer. When styling a monochromatic look, opt for a slightly cropped or relaxed-fitting tee that feels light and airy. It creates an elevated feel while still looking put together. As for accessories, skip anything overly flashy and stick to classic staples instead: black accessories, timeless sunglasses (like Ray-Bans), and an oversized bag (even better if it’s a Birkin – we can dream!). Finish the look with ballet flats, and you’re set for the day.
Black midi moment
If we’re having an all-white moment, it’s only natural to balance it out with a black and white look, too. But instead of reaching for just any black bottoms, consider a classy midi moment instead. Think leather Bermuda shorts paired with wraparound heels or a sleek black straight skirt styled with kitten heels. The overall look feels casual yet elegant, the perfect balance for an everyday business-casual outfit.
Cleverly layered
When we think about styling a white t-shirt, our minds usually jump to layering something over it. But white t-shirts can also work as a layering piece on top. Try wearing one over a printed blouse or button-up to let a bit of pattern peek through at the cuffs and collar, or layer it over a sheer dress for an upscale take on the classic T-shirt dress look.

Patterns downtown
On days when you want to feel comfortable in a white T-shirt but still have a little extra fun with your look, bring out your most fabulous statement skirt. We especially love floral, lace, and studded styles for the upcoming summer season. Again, because it’s a white tee, any colour, pattern, or silhouette works. There’s no need to stress about matching — that’s the beauty of a classic white T-shirt.
Jeans never miss
Jeans are the obvious answer when it comes to styling a white tee, but the style of denim you choose can instantly take the look up a notch. For that classic ’90s Calvin Klein-inspired feel, opt for a medium- to dark-wash straight-leg jean. Bonus points if you can dig through your closet and find your mom’s vintage belt to complete the look. For something more relaxed, pair an oversized white t-shirt with even baggier light-wash denim and simple flip-flops.
Throw on a jacket
On a lazy day or a slightly chilly summer evening, just throw on your favourite jacket over your white T-shirt. For a cute, feminine vibe, a white jacket works perfectly to keep the look soft and cohesive, blending seamlessly into the outfit. To channel that edgy Hailey Bieber-inspired streetwear energy, a black leather jacket paired with a white tee never fails.
Go graphic
A little cheat code when you’re bored with a plain white t-shirt is to reach for a graphic one instead. It’s still casual, but you’ll instantly feel like the It-girl in the room, whether you’re at the office or grabbing lunch with friends. Graphic white tees (especially vintage ones) tend to lean oversized, so try tucking them into leopard trousers or a colourful skirt to add shape, while keeping the overall vibe laid back.
