For those whose wardrobes consist mainly of neutral tones, spring offers the perfect opportunity to introduce and experiment with a little colour. From blue skies and yellow sunshine to the pink blossom on the trees, the new season provides plenty of inspiration. No wonder, then, that shades of cobalt, lemon, butter, and blush all feature amongst the SS26 trends. However, spring's latest trending hue has drawn inspiration from a different source entirely.
Just as autumn's arrival can be marked by the introduction of pumpkin spice lattes to cafe menus, it seems an iced matcha has established itself as every cool girl's current drink order of choice. The traditional Japanese ceremonial tea and its vivid green colouring has been slowly infiltrating mainstream consciousness for the past year or so, but it has now officially surpassed popular beverage status to become a fully-fledged aesthetic.
The trend has no doubt been accelerated by Blank Street, the coffee chain's colour-coordinated pastel green branding just as famous as its flavoured matcha specialities. A quick look across social media confirms the ‘Blank Street girl’ vibe as minimal, understated and effortlessly polished, a subset of the clean girl aesthetic (and yet another microtrend to keep track of).
At a time when fashion and food have never been more intertwined, and with matcha having reached such levels of visibility, it feels like a natural progression that the soft shade of green – similar in tone to sage or pistachio – has transferred from a liquid to a look. According to Pinterest's autumn 2025 trend report, searches for ‘matcha outfit’ increased by 304%, a stat reflected IRL in the high street's new season collections.
See former Cosmo UK cover star, Molly-Mae's recent collaboration with adidas, which includes a pair of (nearly sold-out) matcha Sambas, named for their muted hue. Meanwhile, matcha green features heavily across Zara's new-in section, though it's the halter top with pretty bow-tie detailing, with optional matching skort, that really caught our eye.
