Spring is really starting to spring (finally!), and that means we're spending more time outside – whether that's a Pret sarnie in the park on our lunch break or after-work drinks in the local beer garden. Naturally, then, we want our clothes to match the seasonal change, that being: not too hot, not too cold.

Around this time of year, our typical go-to look for literally any occasion is jeans and a T-shirt. But sometimes, we want to feel a little more elevated in this otherwise 'basic' fit... enter: boat tops.

Boat-neck tops are, in our opinion, a spring wardrobe staple. Why? Well, the flattering neckline elevates the typical T-shirt silhouette, and these tops can be dressed up and down depending on where you're going. If you're headed to the office, for example, a boat-neck top can be paired with tailored pants and an oversized blazer for a casual but smart 'fit. Grabbing matcha with your mates on a Sunday morning? Wear a boat-neck top with your favourite pair of jeans, a spring-ready trench coat, and stylish sneakers (we're obsessed with these Mary-Jane trainers right now).

As for which boat-neck tops we're shopping? This Cotton Rich Ribbed Slash Neck T-Shirt from M&S is an absolute must-have. It comes in five different colourways (that's practically one for every day of the week) and has a slim fit with a ribbed finish.

ASOS also has a chic boat-neck offering, which you can grab in shade 'buttermilk' (see: one of spring's trendiest colours). New Look is another brand that clearly got the memo on spring trends... hi, polka dots! Meanwhile, MANGO's slinky black boat-neck top is perfect for evenings when you're going out out.

Happy spring 'fitting!
