A Good Girl's Guide to Murder returned to our screens earlier today for its second season, reuniting us with Emma Myers as she reprises her role as teenage detective Pip, in the on-screen adaptation of Holly Jackson's novel series of the same name.

The first episode of season two sees the community reeling from the events of last season, with Pip gearing up to face Max Hastings in court, and a new case to investigate as one of her closest friends' eldest brother, Jamie Reynolds, goes missing right before he's set to give evidence in Max's trial.

The episode, which aired earlier this morning on BBC iPlayer, ended with a tribute to Danielle Scott-Houghton, with a black screen popping up before the credits rolled and the tribute: "In loving memory of our friend and colleague Danielle Scott-Houghton, 1989 - 2026."

So who was Danielle and what role did she have in the creation of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 2? Here's what to know following the loving tribute.

Who was Danielle Scott-Houghton?

Danielle Scott-Houghton was a BBC drama commissioner and producer, who played a large role in the creation of many brilliant BBC TV shows including Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

In a tribute shared on The British Blacklist at the start of the year following Danielle's passing, the organisation said: "Danielle truly showed up. In action, care, and belief. She was a steadfast supporter of Black creatives, Black stories, and Black-led platforms, always believing our stories deserved space, scale, and respect.

"Raised by her Jamaican grandparents, Danielle carried her heritage with pride. It shaped her worldview and her commitment to culturally rich, meaningful storytelling. Earlier in her career, she was also a creator, producing, writing, and directing projects including Dear Jesus and The Alexis Show.

"Before joining the BBC, Danielle spent seven years at Balloon Entertainment, serving as Development Executive and Executive Producer on Champion, the groundbreaking musical drama by Candice Carty-Williams for BBC One and Netflix."

Of her work for the BBC, The British Blacklist said: "As Commissioning Editor, Drama at the BBC, she oversaw and contributed to iconic series including EastEnders, Just Act Normal, Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise, where she was executive producer on the BBC’s contribution. She also helped bring major adaptations and originals to screen, from A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (2024) to Towards Zero."

At the time of her passing Kate Oates, head of drama for BBC Studios Productions, said in tribute: “When Dani arrived as our commissioner at EastEnders, it felt like Christmas had come early. She was a fan of the show and a brilliant storyteller, who was dedicated to working with us to make the show the best it could be. With this combination of fierce talent and kind heart by our side, we couldn’t believe our luck. In the short time since she has gone, the messages of condolence have come thick and fast, from all across the production. Each one is a glowing testament to her. She will be greatly missed.”
