It’s finally happening. After years of (im)patiently waiting, fan-casting, and developing an affinity for dragons as a full-blown adult, we finally have an update on the much-anticipated Fourth Wing television adaptation.

In short: it’s coming. Prime has greenlit a series based on Rebecca Yarros’ romantasy novels after over two years in development, with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society producing.

As a reminder: Amazon MGM acquired the rights to Fourth Wing in 2023 and began developing it with Outlier Society. But fans grew concerned when showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett left the project last year—though things took a turn for the positive when Meredith Averill took over. Point is: it’s been a journey!

Averill wrote the adaptation and said in a statement, “Rebecca’s books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate, so devoted, they don’t just read these books, they live in them, and it’s because Fourth Wing is everything at once. The emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it is so much humour and heart and a romance that will consume you.”

Meanwhile, Yarros said of the creative team behind the series, “These are the people who understand that a story means to its readers, and they’re passionate about the book, which is why I trust them completely.”

For those of you who aren’t already obsessed with Fourth Wing, it’s about Violet Sorrengail, who starts training to be a dragon rider at Basgiath War College. Naturally there’s a whole haters-to-lovers romance, not to mention a dragon soulmate plot (it’s a whole thing).
