72 years since the novel was first published, Lord of the Flies by William Golding has finally got its first ever TV adaptation written by Adolescence creator Jack Thorne.
The four-part BBC series follows a group of young school boys who have been left stranded on a tropical island with no adults following a devastating plane crash. While they at first attempt to carry on civilisation and rule following, lead by two of the boys - Ralph and Piggy - their order is overthrown by a power hungry boy named Jack insistent on hunting and abandoning the rules.
The series stars a cast mainly full of actors having their on-screen debut who were selected from an opening casting call. And if you've been just as impressed as us with their acting ability, then here's what you need to know about the four lead cast members of Lord of the Flies.
The cast of Lord of the Flies
Winston Sawyers as Ralph
Who is Ralph? Ralph is the series' lead and gets along with the majority of the group at the start of the series, especial after being elected the leader of the group. However, as the story goes on he begins to lose power and friendships. Winston describes Ralph as "quite charming, humble, and a little bit goofy at times."
What else has Winston Sawyers been in? Prior to Lord of the Flies, Winston appeared in the TV show The Crow Girl on Paramount+.
David McKenna as Piggy
Who is Piggy? Piggy is a beloved character from the original book, and is the voice of reason in the group. While the rest of the group want to just muck about and have fun, Piggy wants to be setting rules and order for their time on the island.
What else has David McKenna been in? This is David's first on-screen role. David secured his role following sending in a self-tape, where he had to "say if I were stranded on a desert island, who would I want to be stranded with and why? I said I would want to be stranded with the West End cast of Les Mis, because, you know, who else?" He then did a final audition in front of Jack Thorne and got a call a week later to say he got the job.
Lox Pratt as Jack
Who is Jack? Jack is the closest to an antagonist the series has and is frustrated at losing out the power Ralph has, and so he creates his own subgroup. Lox who plays Jack says of his character, "he had a lot of rough edges and a very tricky background. He's very narcissistic, arrogant, and condescending, and he knows that he's the best at everything. Deep down he's quite a scared little guy.
What else has Lox Pratt been in? Lord of the Flies is Lox' first on-screen role. We'll see him again on our screens when he takes the role of Draco Malfoy in HBO's new adaptation of the Harry Potter book series.
Ike Talbut as Simon
Who is Simon? Simon is a quiet boy who has abusive parents and ends up being a voice of reason within the group. Ike Talbut who plays Simon, says of his character: "I have a connection with Simon. I don’t know how to describe it. I think of things, or I used to think of things in a similar way that Simon does. I used to be shy and watching the floor when talking."
What else has Ike Talbut been in? Lord of the Flies is Ike's first on screen role.
