Contains spoilers for Karen Pirie season 2

Tonight's episode of Karen Pirie season two revealed a massive plot twist. As Karen delves deeper into the investigation of the 40 year old case of Cat and Adam Grant who were kidnapped outside a fish and chip shop, it becomes apparent that Cat was actually in on her own kidnapping plan.

In episode one of the drama series we saw Karen assigned the task of trying to uncover what really happened to oil heiress Cat Grant and her young son Adam, after the body of one of the kidnapping suspects was discovered in a bog.

Along with her team they unveiled the kidnapping location Cat and Adam were initially taken to, as well as discovering the major players in the kidnapping - Kevin Campbell, Andy Kerr and Mick Prentice. It had appeared in the first episode that Mick had stated a romantic relationship with Cat as a way to get to know more about her life in order to later kidnap her. He was then working with Andy and Kevin to use Cat to get to her father's fortune.

However, by the end of episode two, it turns out that actually wasn't what happened at all. In fact Cat and Mick planned her entire kidnapping themselves. Miss the clues? Here's everything to know.

How did Karen realised Cat was part of the plan for her own kidnapping?

Back in episode one Mint discovers the house where Cat and Adam were held after they were initially kidnapped. It belonged to Andy Keir and had been sitting dormant for 40 years after Andy's sister revealed no one wanted to buy it.

The forensics team began working on it and confirmed the mother and son had been held there. They then begin to question who killed Kevin Campbell as he had a gunshot wound in his head. They discovered the bullet hole and realised the person who shot Kevin must be around 5 ft 8. They then joined the dots and realised Cat was 5 ft 8 with Andy and Mick being taller than this.

Mint asks if it means Cat shot Kevin in self-defence, however it doesn't add up to Karen. Cat's fingerprints are all over the cottage, which shows she wasn't tied up in one location - she had free reign. Karen then remembers the extra passports made for a woman and a child which showed Cat was going to leave with them.

Karen adds it all up and realises Cat was actually in on it the whole time.

All the clues you missed Cat was part of the kidnap plan

Yes it took us and Karen one and a half episodes to realise Cat was part of the kidnap, not the victim. So how did we miss it? Well there was actually a bunch of clues we should have seen coming.

Firstly, the fact that Cat was kidnapped in her very own car that was equipped with her car seat for Adam should have been a red flag. Yes, situations like that do happen, but it seems a bit too convenient that she was essentially ready to drive off.

Then there's the mysterious phone call Cat made in the fish and chip shop. It seems ordinary enough, but given she hadn't told her friend Bonnie who she was calling it should have raised alarm bells that not all was right.

The choice of the fish and chip shop itself was Cat's choice and not Bonnie's, and while it didn't seem odd to Bonnie, Cat being in control was also a potential clue we could have spotted.

But why did Cat want to be pretend kidnapped? Guess we'll have to wait for next week's episode to find out for sure.
