Terrestrial TV is where it's at right now. From the new series of Great British Bake Off, to Married At First Sight UK unfolding on E4 each night. Now, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has returned to our screens - but where is it filmed, and when did filming take place?
The series puts famous faces to the test as they attempt a series of gruelling tasks and interrogations set by former Special Forces operators. All in a bid to see if they have what it takes to make it in the SAS, aka Special Air Service.
This year sees the likes of Matt Hancock (former Health Secretary) and Montana Rose Brown from Love Island taking part, as well as Siva Kaneswaran from The Wanted and Welsh rugby player, Gareth Thomas.
Where is Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins filmed?
The new series of SAS: Who Dares Wins was filmed in Thung Ui, north Vietnam, with 'Thung' roughly translating to 'Valley' in English.
Channel 4 described it as the “most brutal” Vietnamese jungle, while lead SAS: Who Dares Wins instructor Billy Billingham added that it was "visually incredibly intimidating, because everything looks the same. The smells are unlike anything you have ever known. The sensations of extreme heat and humidity are draining. The noise from the trees and creatures is often deafening, leaving little space to find tranquillity in your mind."
He continued, "It’s very mountainous, with challenging terrain under a humid canopy, creating claustrophobia and fear. It’s home to some of the most deadly creatures on the planet, combined with unpredictable weather systems, including typhoons and flash flooding."
So that would explain why it looks like their camp is set up in a bath, then.
When was Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins filmed?
The series filmed in September and October 2022, as disclosed in Matt Hancock's MP Registers Of Interest. The entry revealed he spent 80 hours filming Celebrity SAS while Parliament was in recess, between 24th September and 8th October, before he headed onto I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
This makes sense, timeline wise - Love Island's Montana Brown took part in the show before falling pregnant with son Jude, who she gave birth to in June 2023.
When the reality star announced she was taking part on Instagram, a fan commented, "Was this after pregnancy? Or before omg you superwoman!" to which Montana replied, "Before! Oh my goodness can you imagine doing this post partum 🥵"
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is on Tuesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
