Seeing as millennial's are facing their second 'once in a generation' recession *deep breaths*, we're all collectively tightening our purse strings.
Combined with our current 'in, in' lifestyle, thrifty, DIY beauty hacks and multi-tasking our beauty stashes has thrown all other trends out the water.
Khloe Kardashian's two-ingredient homemade body scrub? Made it. Kourtney Kardashian doubling up her tumble dryer sheets as hair products? On it. Ashley Graham using her eyebrow pencils for her brows and lips? Ingenious.
We have Facialist/Aesthetician, Andy Millward to thank for our next beauty hack, as it's one we spotted on his Instagram.
After being inundated with 'dupe' requests for Dermaviduals' cult £27 Cleansing Milk, Andy shared an industry secret that you can in-fact double up your moisturiser as a cleanser.
In this instance, Andy explained he struggled to find an affordable cleanser that had the same ceramide enriched formula as Dermaviduals, but discovered that CeraVe's Moisturising Lotion (£15 for a whopping 473mls) came closest, and can in fact double up as a cleansing milk, as well as your moisturiser.
"Although the CeraVe is marketed as a lotion, there is nothing to stop you from using it as wash-off cleanser. In the same concept as the traditional cold cream cleansers," he explained.
"So if you have very sensitive and compromised skin, and you find the Hydrating Cleanser is still a little too drying for you, try using the Moisturising Lotion as your cleanser. It's actually the same price as their cleansers so won't cost you anymore. Massage on to dry or slightly damp skin, then rinse off or use a soft flannel. It could be a game changer for you."
Now before you go thinking you never have to buy another cleanser again, we slid into Andy's DM's to ask if the same concept can be applied to other brands.
"I wouldn't necessarily recommend all moisturisers as cleansers," he said. Explaining that it's not something you want to be trying with your expensive creams (obviously) and that oil-free formulas especially wouldn't work. But the concept is based on the original cold cream (ask your nan), which was designed to be used as a moisturiser, but people loved as a cleanser.
However, if you don't have the CeraVe moisturiser to double up as a cleanser, Andy also shared his favourite budget friendly ones.
