20 best sunscreens for the face that are genuinely enjoyable to wear – tried and tested
Keep your skin protected, youthful-looking and even-toned
Whether it's daily defence or your summer beach protection, it's so important to keep your skin safe with the best sunscreen. Yup, finding the right facial SPF will ensure your skin is guarded against premature lines and pigmentation.
But even when you've found your sunscreen soulmate, there are still loads of SPF myths out there that can confuse even the best of us. That's why I hit up specialist dermatologist, Professor Hiva Fassihi to help de-bunk some of the most common misconceptions.
Best facial SPF, at a glance
Do you need to wear sunscreen every day?
I don’t need to tell you that you need to wear SPF every day – I know you already know that. But just to drill it in even more, hear it from the dermatologist herself. “Sunscreen is essential for all skin types to prevent sunburn and to reduce the risk of skin cancers and photoaging in the longer-term,” says Dr Fassihi.
“I encourage my patients to wear their sunscreen every day, regardless of how bright and sunny it appears outside. It is important to remember that UVA, the main cause of skin aging, is present all year round, even on dull days,” she adds.
What should you look for in an SPF for the face?
Sunscreen is an essential skincare product, so you’d understand why there are thousands of options out there. “It is important to choose a sunscreen that is suitable for your facial skin type. A light, non-comedogenic formula can be used by individuals prone to acne, and a moisturising texture with no fragrance for those with dry sensitive skin. Tinted formulations are best for those prone to pigmentation,” says Dr Fassihi.
Those are just two of the many questions frequently asked about sunscreen – and luckily, Dr Fassihi answers the burning ones below. But before, here are the best sunscreens you should be stocking up on this summer, all year round...
