We can't get enough of TikTok for spewing out amazing, never-before-seen beauty hacks.
You saw the one about using your dry shampoo properly, right? And the one that shows you how to curl your hair using a dressing gown belt? Oh, and the really clever faux freckle hack?
Unsurprisingly, these viral videos have been making a reappearance during lockdown, with people bored at home and with limited access to products.
People have also become pretty fixated on switching-up their hair colour. I mean, we can hardly keep up with Kylie Jenner, let alone all the celebs going pink, and the really brave ones dyeing their hair two-tone *gulp*.
But one Tiktok trend re-emergence might be of interest if you want to gently lighten your already blonde hair. It was started by Abby Kovi, and involves pouring a whole bottle of purple shampoo onto dry hair, then leaving it on for anything up to 24 hours! (although we wouldn't recommend this).
The trend took off immediately, with people splattering their bathrooms purple all around the world. And the results seemed impressive, with TikTokers swishing their new seemingly blonde locks at the camera.
But the trend has since been met with criticism, with some viewers pointing out that the end results aren’t actually that much lighter. Clever tricks such as showing the results in a second video, or cutting from the purple-smothered hair to a perfect blow-dry have been blamed for making the viewer think that it's worked.
Experts have also waded in to warn people against trying the trend, explaining that purple shampoo should only be used once every two weeks to neutralise yellow tones, and that overuse could actually make the hair appear duller rather than lighter.
So, what do you think to the #PurpleShampooChallenge? We're playing it safe and waiting for hairdressers to re-open, thanks...
