I'll say what we're all thinking: nobody heard the phrase 'baroque bob' for the first time and pictured a good haircut. To put it bluntly, it sounds like a style that arrives with a lute solo and a tax on grain. But, thankfully, in reality, it's the anti-Farquaad! Think: less Shrek side character, more soft, round and effortlessly chic. And the best part? It's shaping up to be the most flattering haircut of summer 2026.
Unlike the blunt, severe bobs that have dominated recent seasons, the baroque iteration is all about softness and movement. According to Laura Elliott, head stylist and educator at Neäl & Wølf, "the baroque bob is characterised by its structured cut that is styled into voluminous waves," creating a silhouette that feels polished without looking overly done.
Typically sitting just above the shoulders, the cut features longer, looser layers that make it surprisingly versatile. So, whether glossy, tousled or something in between is on your criteria, the extra length allows for multiple styling options while maintaining that coveted rounded shape.
The secret, as Laura explains, is less about the cut itself and more about the styling. "Its finish is all down to the blow-dry technique, so getting it right is key." To recreate the look at home, she recommends applying styling products to damp hair before drying. A mousse or texturising spray will dial up volume and movement, while a smoothing product creates a sleeker, shinier finish.
That said, if you're more of a peak polish kinda gal, Laura suggests using a smoothing balm to control frizz without sacrificing smoothness. When blow-drying, use a round brush and direct the ends inward towards the face to enhance the bob's signature curved shape.
Generally, the style sits just above the shoulders and features longer, looser layers, which allow for more versatility in styling. "The longer the bob length, the softer and more rounded the overall shape will appear," she says.
