Congratulations are in order for Bethany Meyers and Nico Tortorella. After being in a polyamorous relationship for 12 years, the couple announced that they officially got married earlier this month, on March 9.

On Saturday, the Younger actor and his longtime partner shared breathtaking photos from their intimate courthouse wedding on Instagram, along with an essay they wrote for the LGBTQ publication them.

"If you had to label it, Nico and I are in a queer polyamorous relationship. Labels that help people understand, but not labels that define us," Bethany writes, adding that they didn't plan to be "multiple-love kind of people" but that it evolved over their 12 year relationship.

"We became polyamorous without ever really trying, and we let each other go so often; I guess we finally realised it’s the reason we are impenetrable. It’s hard to break something that bends," she adds.

Even though the couple sees other people, Bethany writes that she realised if she was to marry anyone, it would be Nico. "There wouldn’t be another soul I could share my life with, another human I’d be able to trust with my family. Another person for whom my guarded heart would open," she writes.

So Bethany asked Nico to marry her when he came to her apartment one day last year to help get rid of a dead mouse. "I told him I loved him, that I was going to have his kids regardless, and that I needed health insurance (true romance)," she writes. And, after a life-changing trip to the Amazon jungle in December, they were officially engaged.

“We knew we wanted to be married at the courthouse. The office of the city clerk at 141 worth street in lower Manhattan, to be exact,” Nico writes.

"The wedding day. No guests. No flowers. No rings. My 'dress,' consisting of trousers. His 'tux,' gown inclusive," Bethany writes. The couple wore stunning white “genderblending ensembles” that incorporated both dresses and trousers because, as they write in them: “In this relationship, we both wear the pants and the dress.”

Although the couple had a private wedding, they chose to open up about their wedding and relationship via essay "with the hope of shedding light and inspiring other nontraditional relationships."

"We are two kids from the Midwest who fell in love almost 12 years ago on the south side of Chicago," they write of their relationship. "We’ve been boyfriend and girlfriend, boyfriend and boyfriend, girlfriend and girlfriend, no friends, and all friends. We’ve been sober, drunk, high, and addicted. We’ve been straight, confused, fluid, queer, bi, poly, gender enthusiasts." And now, they're married.
