Dating is a numbers game. You've got to get through a lot of the wrong people before you meet the 'right one', right? Well, apparently not... now, a dating expert who has warned that 'overdating' might prevent you from finding true, IRL love.
Mel Schilling, psychologist and consultant for eHarmony and dating show Married At First Sight, has warned that the rise of dating apps, which puts hundreds of potential partners at our fingertips and makes arranging dates easy af, might not be all good news.
“I find that sometimes people who are 'overdating' are trying to hide from something. It can be a great distraction from everyday life. So maybe if you notice yourself doing this, take a little time out, reflect, and really think about what it is you want,” she told 9Honey.
Instead, she advises treating dating apps as a 'social experiment' and using them to explore what you're looking for in a partner. This way you can get an idea of what you want from a relationship.
“Disposable dating can be very confusing, and in fact, can close you off to opportunities for longer-term relationships," she said. She also recommended not putting too much energy into multiple short-term flings, but instead trying to make "the space for a new relationship".
This is ofc unless you're into the emotional rollercoaster of dating five people at once, in which case, as you were.
