Ain't science the cutest? According to a Canadian study, the happiest couples are happy for each other. Adorbs.
Scientists studied the brains of people who are happily married in order to find the secret to ETERNAL HAPPINESS, report the Mail Online. Research concluded that happily married women were more sensitive to unexpected positive emotions from their husbands than negative ones.
Researchers at the Rotman Research Institute in Toronto took a group of 14 women who had been married for an average of 40 years and monitored their brain activity while they were shown a series of videos.
The clips showed either their husbands or strangers displaying different emotions. The emotion shown in each video was different to the film's label in order to confuse and surprise the women.
Women produced more brain activity overall when watching videos of their husbands, but only when their spouse was expressing surprisingly positive emotions. Basically - if you feel happy when the other person is happy, it's a GOOD sign you've found your lobster. If you can empathise with each other, you're on to a winner.
"Many of us tend to think we choose partners who help us work on our issues, and of course, that's part of what happens in good relationships," Dr Duana Welch told Mail Online. "But science increasingly shows that we choose one another for how good they make us feel."
Feeling good is good.
