It was the early 2000s and Sarah has just finished her 13 year stint on Coronation Street as Raquel. After saying goodbye to the iconic character, she began broadening the projects she appeared in and one of her first roles after Coronation Street was Rose and Maloney.
In the series Sarah played Rose Linden, who along with her boss, works at fictional Criminal Justice Review Agency, reassessing cold cases.

What is Rose and Maloney about?
Rose and Maloney is a three-series police drama about the fictional Criminal Justice Review Agency. It features Lancashire as Rose Linden and Phil Davis as Marion Maloney, who is Rose's supervisor. Between them they work to reassess cold cases and see whether miscarriages of justice have been carried out previously.
The first series is simply a pilot series with two episodes, but it was renewed and a further two seasons were produced, with six episodes in the second and three in the third.
It's not one of Sarah's most well-known projects, but it's well worth a watch, with IMDb viewers rating it highly. One person said: "I like the softer edge of this show. It's the partnership of two really great actors that makes the show successful." And another said: "I stumbled over this series by accident and gave it a chance ! It didn't let me down and I find it excellent and some really good acting."
Who is in the cast of Rose and Maloney?
Leading the cast of Rose and Maloney is of course Sarah Lancashire as the strong willed agent Rose Linden. She's joined by Phil Davis, who plays her superior Marion Maloney. Davis is best known for starring in Bleak House, Alien 3 and Vera Drake.
Nisha Nayar, best known for playing Elaine The Pain in The Story of Tracy Beaker, also starred in the cast as Joyce Hammond, another agent working alongside Rose and Marion.
Susan Brown, who played Septa Mordane in Game of Thrones, also starred in the series as an agent called Wendy Sillery.
