If, like us, you can’t get enough of Ted Lasso, you might have wondered if there will be any future episodes or seasons of the Apple TV+ hit show. Here’s what we know about the possibility of a season 4, or some kind of spin-off...

Has a season 4 of Ted Lasso been confirmed?

Originally, the show's co-creator Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted, said the show's third season would be its last. Speaking on the Fly on the Wall podcast, Jason appeared to be pretty clear about the show’s future. “This story is done,” he revealed. “It sounds like such a political answer, but it’s the truth. We only conceived these three [seasons], then this thing became this big old thing.”

But there have been several mentions of possible spin-offs and it seems like quite a few of the actors would be keen to have the show continue, in some way or another. “Yeah, there’s opportunities, I think, for spin-offs," Jason confirmed.

Then, in August 2024, Deadline reported that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift have already signed on for a season 4 option, and the Warner Bros studio was now hoping to target Jason Sudeikis, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) for more episodes.

If you're wondering where Phil Dunster is, due to a scheduling conflict with Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface, he's unlikely to return.

Speaking of a potential for future episodes, Warner Bros' CEO Channing Dungey said in January 2024 (via Variety), "I mean, you watched the finale, there’s a little bit of a door that could be kicked back open if need be.

"I wouldn’t put the period on the end of that sentence just yet. There is still a lot of love for Ted Lasso. And I think that there still is a lot of enthusiasm on the part of Apple for Ted Lasso. Should the opportunity arise, we’d be excited to jump back in to making more…. There are always conversations that are ongoing, just nothing that’s official."

What could happen in a spin-off or season 4?

While the season three finale did tie things up nicely, Keeley does suggest that AFC Richmond launch a women’s team. And given Rebecca’s reaction, that looks like a possibility. So, that’s one storyline that could be explored.

Elsewhere, in June 2023, the official AppleTV X account (formerly known as Twitter) teased that the show could continue without actual Ted Lasso, suggesting the other three coaches go it alone.

a"Smells like potential," they wrote, alongside a photo of Coach Beard (played by Brendan Hunt), Roy Kent (played by Brett Goldstein) and Nathan Shelley (played by Nick Mohammed).

When could a spin-off or season 4 hit our screens?

Given that the show had a break of year in between the second and third seasons, the earliest we could probably expect more from the Ted Lasso universe is 2025. But nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Brendan Hunt, who fans will know as Coach Beard, did affirm that the cast and crew will be taking a break following season 3. He told Digital Spy that it, “remains to be seen,” whether this is the end of Ted and AFC Richmond’s story. “But we definitely saw it as a three-part story and this will be the end of that story. And we treated it as such. Does that mean it's the end of the series? Not necessarily,” he added.

"But at the very least after season three, we're going to take a break, get away from each other's pretty faces for a while, of which we are so tired. And then after that, everything's on the table."

Who from the cast is returning for Ted Lasso season 4?

Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca, joked during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show that she feels, “like trapping (Jason) in a dungeon with a notepad and a pen and just going: ‘Dude, what are you doing?” You can’t step away from it. The characters are so beloved and we all love it."

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy, has even pitched his own idea for a spin-off, which would feature Roy and his niece, Phoebe. “I've got lots of ideas. I like Ghost Roy, where he sort of haunts the school where Phoebe goes, just to hang out with her. It would be spooky for a bit and then she'd just get used to having 'Ghost Roy' around,” Brett tells Entertainment Weekly.

Deadline reported that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift have already signed on for a season 4 option, so we'd see their characters back in Wimbledon...
