While it may feel like this heatwave has lasted a lifetime (and longer), we're officially nearing the end of summer. That means it's soon to be out with the denim shorts and sandals, and in with a fall color palette and warmer textures. And, as we transition into next season, there's one trend that we know is set to be huge over the next few months. Yep, we're talking about the trusty check print.
Transcending time and taste, it's used everywhere from high-end luxury to more affordable brands. There's the iconic Chanel tweed skirt suit, Nirvana-coded '90s flannel shirts, and Taylor Swift Folklore-inspired prairie pieces. So to say, whatever your personality and visual aesthetic, there's a check piece for you.
In terms of it working its way into your fall wardrobe, we all know that checks and warmer color palettes work perfectly together. That means swapping this summer's staples of aqua blue and butter yellow for deep burgundies, burnt oranges, warm mustards, and olive greens. And the staple earth tones, of course.
For those who are already planning and getting their September (and beyond) wardrobes ready, we've been doing some digging and have found the perfect checked pieces. Coming from one of our fave high street stores, Mango, they've just dropped the coolest set, consisting of a top ($46) and matching skirt ($60).
Both pieces feature a gorgeous brown, white, and black color combo, and have the power to be styled both casually and more formally. Let's zoom in. The fitted draped top has a crew neck and an inner lining, and is sleeveless for that chic, sleek feel. The skirt features an asymmetric design and is mid-rise (drop-waist is a trending silhouette) and has an elasticated waistband for added comfort.
As for how to style, if you're wearing both as a complete outfit, add a slim brown leather belt to break the pieces up, and a pair of patent heels. Just going for the top? Add some brown balloon jeans for an elevated jeans-and-a-nice-top-lookor a cream boat-neck knitted sweater to go with the skirt.
