If you've not seen the *iconic* film The Bodyguard, one: why not? And two: Literally why not? The 1992 movie starred Whitney Houston as a world-famous singer and Kevin Costner as a former secret agent tasked with taking on the role of - you guessed it - bodyguard, for the star.

Due to the film's instant cultural phenomenon status, talks of a sequel were put in place pretty soon after, with both Costner and Warner Bros apparently being pretty enthusiastic about a Bodyguard 2. Plus, it's been confirmed that Costner already had a particular person in mind he wanted to play the leading role: Princess Diana.

By all accounts, Diana was fully on board and was reportedly persuaded by close friend and former member of the Royal Family, Sarah Ferguson to take on the part. According to Costner, the plot would have involved his character protecting Diana from paparazzi and stalkers before their relationship evolved into something a little more romantic.

While future meetings were scheduled, unfortunately, the princess was never able to make her big screen debut due to her tragic and untimely death in August 1997. Which of course, also put an immediate halt to production. Costner even revealed that the day before the fatal car crash, he actually received the script for the sequel.

However, 25 years later and rumours of The Bodyguard round two have been circulating again. This time, with talks of another major name being linked to the leading lady, and someone who has a pretty close connection to the late princess.

Yep, that's right, word on the street is that Meghan Markle could be the new star of the film. Which would mean that she'd be playing the role intended for her late mother-in-law.

But as of now, these rumours are exactly that, just rumours, and there has been no confirmation as to whether a sequel is even going ahead, or whether Meghan Markle has actually been cast.

Only time will tell...
