Princess Anne has shared a moving tribute to her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, following the sad news of Her Majesty's passing on 8 September, age 96.
A new statement from the Princess Royal was shared via the Royal Family's official social media accounts yesterday evening (13 September), alongside a sweet picture of the mother and daughter together.
In her emotional message, Princess Anne revealed that she was "fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life," going on to thank those mourning for sharing her "sense of loss".
The Princess Royal then shared in a moving statement: "We may have been reminded how much of [the Queen's] presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted." She signed off the heartfelt message, "To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
The message was posted to the Royal Family's Instagram and Twitter accounts, prompting over 10,000 emotional comments from followers. The Princess Royal's full statement reads:
"I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.
We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss.
We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted. I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.
To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
